Passionately Curious

“I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.” – Albert Einstein

I’m no Einstein, but I am passionately curious.  I think all storytellers are and we take it a step further.  We learn about what we’re curious about and then we make up massive amounts of pretend stuff to go along with it.  I figured out long ago that’s how I process my world.

I was curious about the Battle of Britain, so I created a Time Travel set during that historical period.  Now, I know more about the British experience on the Homefront during World War II than I do about the American one.  And I’m a patriotic, born and bred American citizen!  Nowadays, when I’m curious about something, I don’t wonder why.  I just go with it, knowing, sooner or later, a novel will be born.

History beget Mythology beget Fantasy beget Science Fiction.  So, I’m fascinated by Ancient Egypt, Tudor England, The Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, and pretty much everything in between.

I also love babies.  I was a Certified Professional Nanny until I got promoted to Mommy and now I’m a doll collector and my husband worries I’ll dress up my pet chickens in baby bonnets and let them watch Bugs Bunny.  Which is silly.  The cat would never stand for me babying anyone else.  Isn’t Tigey cute?  She’s thinking, “Uh, not funny.  Get it off.  Now.”

I suppose the best way to describe me is that I am a Hobbit.  I love my books and the shire and children running barefoot through green grass.  On my 50th birthday, I fully intend to be sitting outside my front door, waiting for Gandalf.
